A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height in the form of a shield blazoned as follows: Quarterly Azure and Gules, an arrowhead counterchanged of the field, within the tip a gear wheel, between a key, ward down and a lightning flash pilewise Or, overall a long-sword hilt to base of the like." Enclosing the shield at each side a bipartite Blue motto scroll inscribed "DISCIPLINE AND COURAGE" in Gold letters.
Scarlet and blue refer to the First Heavy Brigade Combat Team. The arrowhead represents the "Warrior Division." The quarterly division of the shield recalls the four major branches comprising the First Brigade Troops Battalion. The gear wheel alludes to the heritage of the Second Engineer Battalion origins. The support of the Signal Corps is recognized by the lightning bolt; the key refers to intelligence collection and analysis. The sword represents valor and readiness and denotes the unit's missions of support and security. Gold signifies excellence.
